Comeback Medvedev Wins Maiden Trophy in 882 Days
Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one titles have been earned on hardcourt
A comeback Medvedev claimed his first title for 882 days with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.
The athlete, a ex- world number one, has endured a torrid period, achieving just one win at the Grand Slams and undergoing a difficult moment at the American major.
Medvedev's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serve in especial - caused him dropping out of the elite rankings and finally splitting with long-term trainer Gilles Cervara.
Currently collaborating with Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually progressed in the past month - culminating in a tightly fought three-set win over challenger Moutet.
This represents his initial championship since the Italian tournament and maiden on a hardcourt from that period of that year.
Victory also means Medvedev has achieved 21 titles at twenty-one distinct competitions.
"It's the first time I have attended a tournament with my both daughters simultaneously, so to secure a title is especially meaningful," said world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.
"This victory is in honour of my child Victoria, because the initial championship I got when my older daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."
The athlete, the former major winner, had failed in his previous six title deciders, comprising in the German tournament previously this season.
Medvedev's retrieving play style and frequent reactions on court had led some to doubt if his ability to compete at the elite level was finished.
However the player has altered his approach in recent weeks, making an effort to advance forward and compete aggressively, backed up by an enhanced serving game.
The champion came back from a break down in the initial set against the difficult Frenchman, securing four of the final five games to go ahead.
The pair traded break points in the second set before the Frenchman, bidding for his first ATP Tour victory, took control to create a final set.
The opponent rescued 4 initial opportunities in a competitive third set before the Russian secured a break to fifteen to secure the win.
Suitably, the winner secured the win with a rally at the net, with his opponent incapable to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
